Mexican Electoral Tribunal Declines to Order Complete Recount

Mexico's Federal Electoral Tribunal, after reviewing the results of a recount of 9% of the votes cast in that nation's July 2 presidential election, has concluded that there was no widespread pattern of fraud in that election. Accordingly, the Tribunal has declined to order a full recount of the votes cast in the election. Analysts expect that the Tribunal will name PAN candidate Felipe Calderón, the winner of the initial vote tallies in July, the victor in the presidential race:

Ahmadinejad's Populism

Since his election a year ago, Iranian President Ahmadinejad has not stopped campaigning. He frequently tours Iran, speaking to crowds inspired by his personal story of triumph over adversity, stirred by his apparent kindness and evident religious conviction, pleased by his promises of industrial development and jobs, and delighted by his willingness to take on the Global Arrogance. Chinese Urbanization and Industrialization

Every year, 8.5 million peasants move into China's cities; China now has 90 urban centers of more than one million people. The fastest-growing urban area in the world is Chongqing. Last spring, The Guardian published a portrait of Chongqing that explains the reasons for the migration of poor Chinese farmers to urban areas, describes the economic boom prompted by Chinese urbanization and industrialization, and portrays two of the results of this boom: growing inequality between rich and poor, and environmental despoilation.
